We are NOT old LGBTQ people hiding and ashamed!

 

We are the Stonewall generation.  We came of age at a time when:

• Being LGBTQ was considered an abomination 

• Psychiatrists said we were crazy

• The church said we were sinners

• The government considered us a national security risk and fired nearly 5,000 of us from public service in the 1940s and 1950s

• Law enforcement warned children about us in school assemblies

• Being LGBTQ was a crime

 

We came out to show the world who we really are and to dispel the myths and lies.

• We blazed a trail where there was none before we came along to do it

• When our families rejected us, we invented a new way of being family:

COMMUNITY and "family of choice"

• We protested against police harassment

• We lobbied and marched to demand our rights

• We won the right to marry

We are Rainbow Seniors.  We are VISIBLE and PROUD.

We know there is still a long way for us to go, but we are going together as one community, one family.
